COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Rules Committee finished deliberating on five articles of the proposed Bangsamoro Electoral Code today, February 28.
The committee deliberated on Articles II through VI of the proposed electoral code for eight hours, which include the establishment of an electoral office, regional political parties in the Bangsamoro, and elective positions in the Parliament.
According to BTA Bill No. 29, the Parliament will have 80 members, with 50% representing parties, 40% representing districts, and 10% representing sectors.
Floor Leader and COR Chair Atty. Sha Elijah Dumama-Alba noted that the committee is having a healthy and productive discussion about the proposed code and that she is optimistic that the committee report will be submitted to the plenary on March 6.
The BEC filed in September 2022 will prescribe the structural, functional, and procedural principles for the conduct of elections, plebiscites, initiatives, referenda, and recall proceedings in the Bangsamoro. See more photos.
