BTA holds public consulation on Lanao del Sur for proposed BEC

LANAO DEL SUR | The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Rules Committee held the last leg of its consultations for the proposed Bangsamoro Electoral Code, gathering the legislative input of stakeholders from Lanao del Sur.

Provincial, city, municipal, and barangay local government units, as well as election experts, academic institutions, religious sectors, and civil society organizations from the province, participated in the sixth and final round of public consultation.

The constitutionality, party district representatives, registration of political parties, representation of women, youth, and the religious sector in the proposed code were among the concerns raised by the stakeholders in Lanao del Sur.

Deputy Speaker Atty. Paisalin Tago assured that all of the input from the series of consultations will be thoroughly addressed during the committee deliberations.

The Parliament Bill No. 29, or the Bangsamoro Electoral Code, is a key measure that will prescribe the structural, functional, and procedural principles governing the holding of elections for officers in the region.

The public consultations led by the Rules Committee have already consulted stakeholders and experts from Manila, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao, Cotabato City, and the BARMM Special Geographic Area. (LTAIS-Public Information, Publication, and Media Relations Division)

Ethics committee meeting

The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Ethics and Privileges discussed this morning a proposed committee resolution that seeks to establish a Code of Ethics for the members of the Parliament.

The proposed code outlines the minimal ethical standard of conduct and behavior that MPs must follow, as well as what the Bangsamoro people expect from legislators and civil servants, such as upholding propriety, honesty, and ethical principles.

The committee will also draft a resolution to address the issue of lawmakers’ dress code.

Meanwhile, they elected MP Hamid Malik, who represents the region’s island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, as the committee’s additional vice chair.

The Committee on Ethics and Privileges, chaired by Deputy Speaker Atty. Omar Yasser Sema, has jurisdiction over matters relating to the duties, conduct, rights, privileges, immunities, integrity, and reputation of the BTA and its members. MP Mitmug district office in Marawi opens

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)–Member of Parliament Lawyer Rasol Mitmug Jr. of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority and the Mindanao State University (MSU) have created a sturdy tie to effectively give service to the Bangsamoro citizens, particularly the residents in this city and the province of Lanao del Sur.

This was attested to through the signing of a pact between said two parties to open the district office of MP Mitmug beside the VIP Lounge of the Dimaporo Gymnasium on the MSU-Main Campus here.

The Bangsamoro have been thankful to the university system for letting them set up their own center that is good for government work.

“Masaya tayo kasi dati, mayroon tayong office dito sa MSU pero hindi ganoon kalaki. With the MSU President Mapupuno, nakapag-request tayo ng office space dito sa MSU. At least mayroon na tayong district office so mas mapapalapit tayo sa constituents natin,” said Mitmug.

(We are happy because before we had an office here at MSU, but it was not that big. With the help of President Mapupuno, we were able to request an office here at MSU. At least we already have a district office so we can be closer to our constituents.)

Lawyer Basari Mapupuno, the president of the MSU System, said Mitmug was a good partner for working with them by using one of their facilities on the Main Campus.

He stated that they agreed with the opening of the district office of Mitmug within the campus to serve the people in the province of Lanao del Sur.

Mapupuno stressed that this is a solid testament to their forged alliance as representatives of veritable institutions with the common purpose of serving the Bangsamoro constituents.

He said that they hoped the district office, which is also the Lanao Chapter of the Bangsamoro People’s Party, would reach its goal and purpose by putting their best foot forward and keeping the people’s best interests in mind.

“We have high hopes that this district office will serve as a productive venue for the legitimate concerns of the Bangsamoro to be heard and acted upon,” said Mapupuno. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
