MANILA – The Bangsamoro Parliament’s Local Government Committee concluded the fifth and final leg of public consultations for BTA Bill No. 30, or the Bangsamoro Local Governance Code, today, March 4, in Manila, gathering relevant inputs from various national government agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
According to Deputy Floor Leader and CLG Chair Atty. Raissa Jajurie they have already consulted experts and stakeholders from the provinces of Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Maguindanao del Sur and del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato City, and the BARMM Special Geographic Area.
The series of consultation processes included participation from provincial, city, municipal, and barangay levels of local government, as well as from government and non-government groups, academe, religious leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
Many of them expressed support for the proposed code during the consultation, while others emphasized the need for stronger provisions on devolution, decentralization, women’s participation, and revenue.
Once the BLGC is enacted into law, the Bangsamoro government will provide a more responsive and accountable local government structure instituted through a system of decentralization.
The BLGC applies to all constituent provinces, cities, municipalities, barangays, and other political subdivisions, as well as officials, offices, or agencies of the Bangsamoro government.
The deadline for submitting position papers on the proposed code has been extended to March 31. See more photos.
