MP MITMUG CALLS FOR CALM, SOBRIETY AS SC TRO HALTS BARMM REDISTRICTING; COMELEC TO AWAIT RULING

We call for calm and sobriety as the Supreme Court’s Temporary Restraining Order on the BARMM redistricting law takes effect and the Commission on Elections signals it will await the Court’s guidance.

This is a historic electoral exercise for the region, and it deserves clarity, order and respect for due process.

The TRO pauses implementation of Bangsamoro Autonomy Act 77 while the Supreme Court studies the petitions and calls on Comelec, the Bangsamoro Transition Authority and the petitioners to comment.

As a lawyer, I view this as a necessary legal step so the Court can settle the constitutional questions and provide a clear way forward. We highly appreciate this, that we chose the rule of law by elevating our concerns to the Supreme Court rather than generating local conflicts.

Comelec has clarified that the campaign period and the election period remain in effect, along with all prohibitions like the gun ban and other election rules. What is on hold are certain internal preparations linked to redistricting, while security coordination continues so the system is ready once the Court resolves the matter.

The aim is a smoother, more orderly election where voters, candidates and institutions are aligned on the legal framework, the districts and the ballots that will be used.

At huwag po tayong padadala sa fake news: We encourage everyone to rely only on official sources for updates such as the websites and verified channels of the Supreme Court, Comelec and the BTA.

As member of the Bangsamoro Parliament and as Secretary General of the Bangsamoro People’s Party (BPP), we encourage all parties and individuals who are currently seeking elective posts to continue their local campaign. We humbly ask all candidates to follow Comelec rules, observe the gun ban and other prohibitions, and keep engaging communities with respect.

Tuloy ang kampanya, pero dapat lagi po tayong nasa tama as we await the guidance from the Supreme Court and the corresponding directive from Comelec.

Once the Court resolves the TRO, we will move as one to deliver an election worthy of the Bangsamoro, honoring both our democratic aspirations and the rule of law.
